The 2018 Frankfurt International Trophy
We are delighted to announce that we have followed up our 12-medal haul at last month’s Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair with a further 3 medals at the Frankfurt International Trophy, in Germany, this week.
In previous years, The Frankfurt International Trophy has been a competition for wine and spirits but for 2018 they decided to open the competition to beers as well. This competition differs slightly from others of its kind. The organizers invite a group of 80 ‘experienced amateurs’ to judge the beers alongside their panel of 220 international experts. This guarantees a selection that represents both consumers and experts’ taste. It also makes the competition the only one of its kind in Germany. The competition judges beers in a wide variety of more than 60 categories and is therefore open to all the world’s craft beers and breweries.
We entered 3 of our McGargles beers into this year’s competition. Sean’s Export Stout, Daragh’s Session IPA, and Dan’s Double Bangin’ IPA were chosen, and they didn’t fail to deliver. We were notified late on Tuesday evening that they had all been awarded Grand Gold medals on the night. We were thrilled as this is the highest medal available in the competition!
The good news didn’t stop there though. Whilst Daragh’s Session IPA lost out to Sierra Nevada’s Torpedo Extra IPA for ‘Best Beer of the Competition’ in the IPA Category, Dan’s Double Bangin’ IPA and Sean’s Export Stout were both awarded as the ‘Best Beers of the Competition’ for their Imperial IPA and Foreign Stout categories, respectively. Bloom in the Park
We’d like to thank all those involved at The Frankfurt International Trophy for hosting such an incredible event. We’ll hopefully be able to make it over for the event itself next year, we’re already looking forward to it. Next up in our event calendar though, is the 2018 Bloom In The Park event, which takes place in the Phoenix Park and runs from the 31st of May until the 4th of June. Mark it in your diaries, we’d love to see you there!
