We add one extra natural ingredient to all of our beers, quite simply – it’s our absolute love of beer!
The Rye River Brewing Company, established in November 2013, is a small independently owned beverage company based in Kilcock Co. Kildare. Their aim is to be the most important craft brewery in the sector and the obvious and natural distribution partner for leading global brands in Ireland.
They produce their own family of craft beers known as McGargles and in addition to their own unique family of craft beers, Rye River Brewing distribute beers for like minded family brewers including Bavaria, Holland’s Premium Lager, San Miguel from Spain, Coisbo, a Danish Craft Beer range and Innes & Gunn from Edinburgh.
The Rye River Brewing Company has an elite team of enthusiastic brewers who are constantly raising their game, challenging themselves, not to mention our pallets with some of the most incredible tasting beers! From innovation in fabricating our brewery with the great equipment to the propagation of yeasts, mixing malts and the varying times of the fermentation process, the impreciseness of their precise and varying expertise is what brings the magic to every bottle we produce……….or pour down the drain! But that’s the nature of brewing and that’s the fun of it too.
Our brewery is a state-of-the-art brewery which was 100% designed and built in Ireland, making the Rye River Brewery the first brewery to do so in over 100 years. The 40,000 square foot brewery will house a 5,000 sq ft visitors’ centre which will include conferencing facilities and an 85 seat café. The visitors’ centre will open later this year.
Further development will also see the Rye River Brewing company building its on bottling plant on their premises. This will significantly increase efficiency and significantly reduce their CO2 emissions and adding to their already robust sustainability plans.
McGargles is a range of beer designed for people choosing craft beer for the first time or for people who don’t like overly hopped beers. McGargles is a brand with real personality and fun, but built on brewing expertise in a town with a deep connection to brewing. Each beer is linked with its own character in the McGargles family and has only natural ingredients. No Additives, no preservatives and no adjuncts.
Every member of the McGargles family is based on a friend or family member, but they don’t know!
McGargle Family Members:
- Granny Mary Red Ale
- Uncle Jim’s Stout
- Knock Knock Ned India Pale Ale
- Cousin Rosie’s Pale Ale
- Fancy Frank’s Lager
- Gravy Maevey Pilsner
Currently, the Rye River Brewing Company distributes their popular and unique character in beers to over 15 countries worldwide, including their recent launch of McGargles into over 150 pubs across New York and their impending launch into Toronto, Canada.
About Bavaria, Holland’s Premium Beer
As an independent family business, Bavaria brewery takes up a unique position in the international beer market. The company is managed by the seventh generation of the Swinkels family. Apart from beer, Bavaria also produces soft drinks. In addition, they work closely with De Koningshoeven beer brewery (La Trappe), one of the 8 Trappist beer breweries in the world.
Bavaria is the only major beer brewer in the Netherlands to brew beer from pure natural mineral water from its own spring. As Bavaria also produces its own malt, the entire chain is under its own management. The malt houses in Lieshout and Eemshaven are owned by Holland Malt BV, a joint venture between Bavaria and Agrifirm, a farmers’ cooperative. This typifies the philosophy of the family business: beer of a constant high quality.
Bavaria employs a total of about 1000 people in the Netherlands and abroad. Bavaria is available in 120 countries. Out of the six million hectolitres of beer produced by Bavaria on an annual basis, 65% is destined for the foreign market.
The Rye River Brewing Company also distribute San Miguel in Ireland and offer it on draught, in cans and in bottles with excellent margins for the customer. San Miguel has been growing strongly across all channels since we launched it earlier this year and will sell in excess of 12m litres in Ireland in 2014
Coisbo Beer took home the 2015 Dublin Craft Beer Cup for the second year in a row for its Eleven Russian Imperial Stout – Sherry Matured. The Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair competition boasted 469 beers from 24 countries across the globe in the professional beer competition. Coisbo’s unique Russian-style Imperial Stout matured in sherry barrels wowed the panel of experienced international judges.
Dublin Cup Gold Medal – Eleven Russian Imperial Stout
In awarding the prize the Head judge Dr Inge Russell, Editor of the Journal of the Institute of Brewing said that while all of the gold awarded beers they judged were very good, “but there was one that easily floated to the top,” Coisbo’s Eleven Russian Imperial Stout which is sherry matured with the judges noting the “beer’s soft roasty chocolate and vanilla notes, with some fruit on the nose, and a full-bodied flavour.”
Silver Medal for first Apple Pie Cider
They were also awarded a silver medal on the last day of the competition for their first cider. Having only started to produce their Apple Pie Cider six months ago, just in time for entry into this year’s Alltech Cider challenge, Anders Coisbo was delighted to have had such success with his ciders which he only decided to try brewing because of his first Alltech visit in 2014. Seeing the Cider brews on show at the event inspired him to take the sweet tasting Danish Autumn Apples to create magic, turning them into his now award winning Apple Pie Cider.
Along with his gold and overall win for his Eleven Stout and for his Cider, Coisbo took home medals for:
- 2015 Gold Medal for FOUR – Russian Imperial Stout: Number FOUR – Russian Imperial Stout
- 2015 Silver Medal for Urban Haze – Pale Ale with Elderflower
- 2015 Silver Medal for Manhattan Dawn – American IPA
- 2015 Silver Medal for 5th Avenue – Classic
We also look forward to distributing for Innes & Gunn from Edinburgh! Innes & Gunn has become a favourite in Canada and is enjoying global success. We look forward to working with their team and bring the great taste of Innes & Gunn to our Irish customers.
